Mugwort (Artemisia vulgaris)

Actions: Bitter tonic, alterative, vermifuge, antifungal, antiseptic, antibacterial, carminative, cholagogue/choleretic, diaphoretic, diuretic, nervine relaxant, emmenagogue, and abortifacient.

Energetics: slightly warming and slightly cooling.

Tissue states:  damp/stagnation, wind/tension, cold/depression, dry/atrophy, and mental/emotional depression.

Mugwort has an affinity for the following body systems and tissues:

Digestive, nervous, urinary, and female reproductive systems

Reproductive System: affinity for the reproductive system through it’s emmenagogue effects and ability to regulate menstruation. It promotes and harmonizes menstruation and also relieves amenorrhea.

Digestive System: affinity for the digestive system and liver through the bitter action which stimulates increased secretions in the liver and gall bladder. Mugwort helps with liver and stomach Qi stagnation.

Kidneys: an affinity through both its diuretic action and its use as an antiseptic remedy.

Circulatory: the aromatic properties of Mugwort make this a great
circulatory stimulant and lend to the diaphoretic action. This is where mugwort gets its warming effect even though it has a cooling bitter action.

Nervous System: An affinity for the nervous system as it works as a nervine relaxant
and tonic to gently unwind states of tension.

When you need clarity and strength, make a tea of mugwort and drink before going to bed at night.
