Sweet Annie (Artemisia Annua)
There are some remarkable studies about the effectiveness of Sweet Annie as an effective agent against Coronavirus. A team of researchers from Worcester Polytechnic Institute has found that extracts from the leaves of the Artemisia annua plant inhibit the replication of the SARS-CoV-2 virus and two of its recent variants.
The plant has been studied extensively, and has been used safely for more than 2,000 years in traditional medicine to treat a variety of fever-related ailments.
Results showed that the extracts of sweet annie did not block the virus from entering cells but interfered with the virus’ ability to replicate, thus killing it.
The plant possesses compounds that inhibit inflammation and the formation of scar-like tissues known as fibrosis, which also affect patients with COVID-19.

This Chinese antimalarial herb has been cultivated in China for at least 2000 years, but its development as an antimalarial drug, using its leaf extract, was recent and was honoured with a Nobel Prize in 2015. Interestingly enough, its isolated constituents show promise as an anticancer agent as well. It can be prepared as a topical ointment and tincture.
Characterized by dark green, tall, fern-like leaves and white flowers that bloom late summer to early fall. Its highly aromatic branches are also used in dried floral arrangements and to make scented wreaths.
