Wormwood (Artemisia Absinthium)
The genus is named Artemisia from Artemis, the Greek name for Diana. The whole family is remarkable for the extreme bitterness of all parts of the plant. It is very wholesome and used to be popular by brewers to use instead of hops.
According to the ancients, wormwood counteracted the effects of poisoning by hemlock and toadstools.
The leaves resist putrefaction, and have been on that account a principal ingredient in antiseptic fomentations.
